Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Dr. Dean McCarley attended college at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL after which he earned his medical degree at Duke University in Durham, NC. Following medical school, Dr. McCarley completed his internship and residency in internal medicine as well as a fellowship in hematology/oncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He then began a career with the Veterans Administration starting as chief medical resident, ultimately becoming the Assistant Chief of Medical Services and Chief of the Hematology/Oncology Section. In addition, Dr. McCarley has served on the national marrow transplant review board and as an Associate Professor in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Florida. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology, Dr. McCarley has a specialty area of interest in solid tumors including lung and head and neck cancers. He joined the Community Cancer Center of North Florida in 2002. In his free time Dr. McCarley enjoys playing tennis and restoring antique cars.
